Along the Peak to Peak there is a sense of brief awakening, as communities emerge from their lockdowns and try to enjoy a sense of normalcy. Although it looks like the Covid crisis has not passed, life still insists on returning to people, at least long enough to share a meal with friends and get out into the sunlight for the fall transition.
In Ward, that means another business has opened its doors to people traveling through. The Dynamite Shack, a food truck located at the base of the hill entering Ward at Utica Street, opened on Friday, August 20, 2021.
Treis Rainey is the proprietor of the Shack, along with his partner Shaz Shaurtz. They are both residents with ties to Ward. “We’ve been here years, around the mountains,” said Rainey at his opening.
He said that he and his partner got tired of working for other people and are trying to make it on their own. Rainey was an executive chef for fifteen years at restaurants in and around the mountains, including the Chautauqua Dining Hall in Boulder.
Rainey plans to be based in Ward until the weather gets too cold and then hopes to relocate to Nederland for the winter.
As for the menu, his food is made either on site or at a kitchen in Boulder. He aims to offer high quality meals at an affordable price, which can be sometimes difficult to find in mountain towns. “The most expensive thing we’ll have on the menu is thirteen bucks, which is a ground angus brisket burger. Well worth thirteen bucks.”
“We’ve got smoked burgers, smoked tacos. We’ve got smoothies, expressos, all kinds of stuff… hand cut fries, house pickles,” he explains.
The reasoning behind Rainey deciding to open in Ward is because of the amount of traffic and the lack of viable food options in the area. “Basically, from Allenspark to Nederland you have no food.”
The Dynamite Shack is open Wednesday through Monday from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. For more information on The Dynamite Shack check out their Facebook page or contact them at (303) 495-0815.
