James Sizer, Allenspark. This is the 130th anniversary of Bunce School near Allenspark, CO. It was built by V.H. Rowley in 1888 and used as a school until 1940. It is recognized by the National Register as one of the only two original log schoolhouses left in Boulder County. It was named for Joseph Bunce, who was an early settler and superintendent of schools.

Bunce had come from Louisville, Kentucky where he had served as mayor.
Bunce School provided the education for such communities as Raymond and Peaceful Valley. Harry Sizer, who was born in Ward in 1880, attended this school that was named for his grandfather.
In 1915, Sizer built his miner’s cabin in Nederland where Jim and Genette Sizer currently spend their summers.
Bunce School was declared historically significant by the State of Colorado and Boulder County. It has been owned by the Hilltop Guild since 1996.
