A one-woman operation, the Bodhi Studio offers beautiful and natural wedding photography. Susan Sandusky’s photographic work provides her the ability to pour her heart and soul into every photo she captures.

“I… have an unnatural ability to grab moments right when they should be,” said Sandusky. “It’s all about intuition and knowing how to paint with light.”

Before starting The Bodhi Studio, Sandusky obtained her bachelor’s degree in Advertising Photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004. After that, she worked in New York for a short period. Soon after, Sandusky moved to Paris to pursue her fashion photography career. Then, coming back to New York, she worked commercially in photography at a national tricatalog company.

Five years later, she became bored with studio work, and needed something to capture her in her work and fall in love with her art.

She took on a wedding gig from a co-worker and never looked back, leaving her commercial photography job. The Bodhi Studio was created on March 20, 2008; booking out weddings in 2009 allowed her to move to Colorado, somewhere she had never been. “By 2009, I had booked so many weddings that I was able to make the move…. my journey has been absolutely amazing!”

“Something about capturing those candid moments… got me,” said Sandusky. “The challenge of the diverse and unpredictable lighting situations did as well.”

Over the years, her business has grown very fast, with a setback due to the pandemic this past year. She believes she owes her success, she says, to “my style, my connection with humans, and the way I see light. Also, my laid back approach to sales.”

Sandusky currently shoots all over the country but is based out of Nederland, Colorado, and Sonoma County, California. With each package she includes travel and unlimited hours on wedding days. and she loves the journey as well.

She sees the business continuing to grow, “and hey, maybe I’ll hit all 50 states soon.... I’m getting close!”
