Dear Editor,
Please be careful about the presence of moose cows having calves and the danger they can pose to unsuspecting people.
Moose cows are VERY protective of their young, and see any intrusion or approach to them as a danger. Dogs need to be kept on a leash this time of year as the mamas see any canine as a wolf and will charge. Moose can be very dangerous as they will not only charge, but also will stomp on perceived predators and can cause serious bodily injury.
People should not assume there is no calf just because they aren't visible, they often are resting under trees and bushes. Folks should assume that there is a calf and back away from any moose slowly for their own safety.
Let’s all stay safe - moose, dogs, and people.
