Mimi and Omar Garcia and Christine Gress have been the proud owners of the antique store Hawley Mercantile since October of 2019. They say that, as vendors who worked under the original owner, “we did not want to see it closed” when the owner stepped down, “so we got together and reopened under new ownership.”
With over 45 vendors working at Hawley, the store is the biggest in the Gilpin County area. The store takes pride in its site being a former gold the official website says that “visitors still come to cash in.”
The physical location contains four floors of antiques, including fine art, coins, sports memorabilia, handmade jewelry, and other collectibles. New items are added to the store’s collection every week.
The owners say that their favorite part of being able to work at Hawley is “meeting people from all over the country” who come to visit the historical site to browse the various antiques available for sale. Clearly, the site that is known as “The Richest Square Mile on Earth” has an antique shop that needs to be seen to be believed.
Hawley Mercantile is located at 121 Main Street in Central City. Its hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday through Sunday.
