A taste of the Caribbean in Nederland

Posted

The I&I Caribbean Cafe will offer tasty meals until the weather shifts too much to have an outdoor cafe. Tony Mon estimates he will make it into October before the weather changes. Then you’ll have to wait for next summer, to check out his outdoor cafe. He has been serving food at Blue Owl Books for 6 summers, although he did not open during 2020 and 2021, due to Covid.

Tony Mon has been creating his delectable, authentic Caribbean flavors since 1999. He started in Boulder and then ended up in Nederland 5 years later to be closer to home, being in the mountains. He had several years of serving the community his homemade food, then refocused back his coffee import company, I&I Exotic Coffees & Spices. His roasting is completed in a separate location.

You will find several traditional dishes, as well as non-dairy options cooked with extra virgin coconut oil or milk. There is also a gluten- free Kasara bread. Tony uses many caribbean root vegetables in his meals.

Tony says he is a “one man show” now. He serves five different types of entrees on the weekends. Meals start at $12 and his hibiscus lemonade is just $4. He will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., or until the food runs out each day.

I&I Caribbean Cafe is located at Blue Owl Books, 176 Highway 119, Nederland, CO 80466. You can reach them by phone at 303-258- 3695.

Sponsored by the town of Nederland, with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
