No one can argue the importance of having accessible rescue services, especially in remote areas where it may take twice as long for help to arrive. The Sugarloaf Fire Protection District (SLFPD) is one of the heroic agencies residents rely on in the Peak to Peak region.
The district encompasses 17 square miles, with elevations between 5,900 to 9,200 feet. Approximately 600 homes, a Boulder water treatment plant, Boulder County Open Space, City of Boulder Mountain Parks, and several thousand acres of Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest are protected by the SLFPD.
The department is powered by volunteers, with approximately 45 members. Responding to roughly 140 calls every year, including motor vehicle accidents, smoke reports, structure fires, wildfires, fallen climbers, lost hikers, and several medical emergencies, the SLFPD is very much needed.
Crafters, artisans, bakers, residents, and supporters of the SLFPD gathered on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sugarloaf Fire Protection District Fire Station 2 for a small craft fair filled with enormous talent.
Crafts included products by MooseTrack Boutique, art by Kathy Bremmers, upcycled clothing, homemade jams and jellies, Hayden’s Pet Treats, and Forever Spicy sauces, to name a few. Mouth-watering baked goods were for sale, and silent auction items were part of the fundraising.
Among silent auction donors were the Very Nice Brewing Company, Mountain People’s Co-op, Spinning Silica, Mountain Man Outdoor Store, Wild Bear Nature Center, The Rustic Moose, and Nature’s Own.
The Sugarloaf Craft Fair is a colorful reminder of the importance of supporting our local heroes, from firefighters to EMTs and even our local businesses to neighbors.
The Sugarloaf Fire Protection District is located in Boulder County. Station 1 is located at 1677 Lost Angel Road. Station 2 is located at 1360 Sugarloaf Road. Station 3 is located at 8200 Sugarloaf Road. To learn more or to donate to the SLFPD, visit https://www.slfpd.org/.
