GILPIN COUNTY — The Eagles Girls’ Volleyball Team played their final home match of the season on October 27 against Estes Park. After playing in 18 matches up until then over the course of nine weeks, it was a night to honor their seniors for their contributions.
In a ceremony before the match began, all four of the seniors were presented bouquets of flowers as family members, coaches, teammates, and fellow classmates paid tribute and recognized all that they’ve meant to the school.
Head Coach Skyley Ramsey noted that “Gretchen Osteboe goes above and beyond for her teammates; she has developed into an amazing leader who supports her team. She showed up for her squad on and off the court, giving underclassmen rides to practice and encouraging her team in the huddle between sets. Gretchen shows her love of the sport by consistently giving 100% at practice and in matches.
“Jennifer Rodriguez-Jimenez was our captain this year because of her amazing ability to connect and lead. She started the season as libero and ended as an outside hitter because of her natural talent as a hitter. Jenny always had a great attitude and led her team with pride.
“Alice Carlson took on the libero role for us this year because of her strength in serve receive and her hustle on the court. Alice never let a ball drop without a fight. Her in-game serve percentage was 93%, the highest of all varsity starters.
“Autyanna Amaya was a reliable outside and right-side hitter for us this year; she even stepped up as a setter when needed. Auty is known to her teammates as kind and supportive, through and through. She showed amazing grit this season and never fails to show up for her teammates.”
A highly-competitive match ensued with long rallies and thrilling moments – just the kind of effort we’ve seen from this group of girls all year long.
