BLACK HAWK – For centuries, the lore of Santa Claus has brought wonder and joy to the holiday season. He began as St. Nicholas, the kind and generous gift-giver, and became the jolly, red-suited figure we know today. Santa has become a symbol of warmth, kindness, and magic.
Each year, he and Mrs. Claus remind us of the simple joys of giving and togetherness – a tradition celebrated in communities around the world.
The Mountain Poppy Gift Shop and Wine Bar was no exception on Saturday, December 14, as families gathered for a cozy day of meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The shop, decorated with a fireplace backdrop and festive touches, hosted its annual holiday event, a tradition many in the community look forward to.
The scent of mulled wine filled the air, and free cookies were handed out to guests of all ages. The reason for the season: Mr. and Mrs. Claus, who made the children light up with bashful smiles.
Dressed in their classic red and white suits, the pair greeted families with warm embraces and plenty of holiday spirit. Kids, dressed in their best outfits, eagerly approached them, though some needed extra time holding onto mom to get acquainted.
The magical duo's patience and warmth impressed even the adults as Santa let the children tug on his real beard, testing it for authenticity, and Mrs. Claus invited them to touch her hat.
The kids received gift bags filled with small toys and treats upon leaving. Activities kept the little ones entertained, from decorating ornaments to arts and crafts and coloring books.
The event wasn’t just about the treats and activities – it was about bringing people together. The Mountain Poppy team has hosted this event for three years, and it’s clear how much the community appreciates it.
Families who attended were able to slow down, enjoy time together, and celebrate the holidays. Santa and Mrs. Claus brought plenty of cheer, making the day memorable for everyone who stopped by.
In a busy season, the Mountain Poppy event offered a welcome break to relax, connect, and make lasting memories.
