Pedicures for men

Dave Gibson, Peak to Peak. Of all the things I thought I might do during my lifetime, getting a pedicure hadn’t occurred to me and wasn’t on the list.

After toiling decades in work boots on roofs and most likely genetically predisposed to calluses on my heels, the excess skin had become thick and deeply cracked. I’d tried filing them and even at one point applied an electric palm sander to the unsightly tootsies, but nothing was effective. Tired of fighting a losing battle and with my feet more difficult to reach these days, action needed to be taken. I decided to seek the help of a professional pedicurist to alleviate my problem before a farrier’s intervention would be necessary.

There might be a perception out there that real men don’t get pedicures. As a real man, I had my reservations, but can attest that they sometimes do. From beginning to end, it was an enjoyable luxury spa treatment and guys have nothing to fear. Males need and deserve a little extra attention from time to time and besides, why should the girls have all the fun?

Soaking in a warm jetted foot bath for ten minutes felt heavenly but was only a prelude of things to come. Tools of the trade sitting next to the basin looked menacing as those at the doctor’s or dentist’s office but were completely innocuous. Attending to years of neglect, toenails were clipped to perfection and filed on their undersides. Cuticles were straightened and thick parts of the nails brought under control with an electric grinder. To soften the built up crustiness, oils were applied to the soles and spread around the feet and lower legs with a pleasurable massage. The technician who worked on my feet was clearly a skilled expert that had administered her magic on thousands of customers. Incredibly, she devoted a solid forty-five minutes of hard labor to the session. More power scaling implements and large files that looked like cheese graders painlessly scraped the calluses off my heels and elsewhere in a soothing sensation that almost tickled. A quick rinse, more oil, filing, and massage with particular attention paid to the toes followed.

Sufficiently pampered and totally relaxed by the cathartic experience, I can highly recommend the treatment to anyone with or without foot issues. The price seemed a bargain and I left a nice tip for the extra effort surely required. My feet looked and felt great in the best condition they’d been in years and besides smelling a little flowery from the scented oils afterward, I emerged from the salon with my manhood intact.
