The 2021-2022 Nederland Panthers boys soccer team played hard the entire season. They started to practice on August 8, and had their first game on August 26 against Addenbrooke and won! On the 28th they played against Lake County and lost, and again on the 31st against Estes Park, lost. On September 2 against Champion Academy, and lost. The team played again on September 11 against Windsor Charter Academy and lost, and on the 14th against Loveland Classical and lost. Then the team played on the 21st against Denver academy and they lost, then on the 23rd against Front Range Christian and lost, and finally on the 28th against Dawson Academy where they lost.
The team is amazing! Head coach Alberto Gonzales says, “In the mid of the season I can say that we are having a great season. From the beginning of the season until now I saw how much the team is working in every practice and in every game and how much they are growing as a team. They love to practice and learn every day. For me now the most important thing is to learn, improve and have fun. They are playing as a team, thinking as a team and if they continue like that victories will come soon. I am really proud of the work I saw until now and I know they will continue working harder everyday. Especially thanks to the families for their support in every game and also for the families that support us from home.”
The team this year included freshman Eric Thurtson, Grizzly Steuck, Eli Wiener, Maddox Gioga, Jesse Siegal Gane,Talon Barry, Cedar Shupe, Dean Howell, Jayden Abookire, and Gray Schlosser; sophomores Ricky Fortunato, Gavin Dillon, Hayden Hardt-Zeman, Tyler Gilmore; juniors Beshal Malla, Max Godsil, Mason Lupe, Austin Chareunsouk, and seniors Charlie Rawlins, Zach Weiner, Ben Nichols, and Townes Bakke.
Team captain Zach Weiner says “Covid made this an extremely challenging season on many levels. This was a young team with the majority of the players being freshmen and sophomores. Coach Gonzales and these players showed up and gave it their all.”
Great work Panthers!
