Los Cheesies Melt Audiences
Cynthia D. Chambers
Peak to Peak
This Friday night at The Pioneer Inn, Los Cheesies performs original world rock fusion. The group met great fanfare at Frozen Dead Guy Days with their six-piece party band that’s made up of loco Gringos and Mexicans. They’re coming as a four-piece this week, but their energy is still infectiously high.
Listeners can expect a full mix of rock, ska, reggae cumbia, and hip hop, as well as cheesiefied cover songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. If you have a few minutes, watch their entertaining videos (such as “Boulder Techie Hipsters,” “Turkey Ratsa, and “Vamos a Lucha Libre”) on YouTube. Later this year, they’ll be releasing their second album, “The Future of America,” which has strong political messages about immigration, homelessness, and racism.
Shawn Camden, owner of Sancho’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Gunbarrel, formed Los Cheesies nine years ago when he met the bassist Carmello at the original location of Rincon del Sol. The nightclub scene thrived there in 2003, and he quickly bonded with Carmello who comes from a music family in Mexico. They added lead guitarist Nick and started writing original music. Their stage presence is strong with satire, comedy, romance, politics, and all around plain silliness. Get uplifted this Friday and catch a memorable performance.
