GILPIN COUNTY — There’s a new business in the Peak to Peak that you, your pet, and even your gas tank will appreciate.
Peak Pet Supply has officially opened in Mid-Gilpin, just off Golden Gate Canyon Road, inside the High Country Professional Building (the former home of Holistic Homestead).
Owner Matthew Schillinger, a lifelong animal lover, said the idea struck like a “light bulb moment” when he realized just how much the community needed a local source for pet supplies. The shop currently carries food for dogs, cats, and birds, with livestock feed coming soon.
Prices are intentionally competitive so that healthy food, treats, and supplements remain accessible to everyone in Gilpin County—no drive to Nederland or Evergreen required.
Schillinger enjoys the face-to-face side of the business and encourages pet owners to stop in, say hello, and pick up whatever their animals need. With a background in management, construction, and hands-on hard work, he’s a natural at running the shop.
For now, he’s operating it solo, but with determination and a steady customer base, he hopes to expand to additional locations in the future.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he joked, though his small empire is already gaining traction in this corner of the county.
