Beth Brotherton chatted with parents on the first day of school. Brotherton, who has served the school community for 23 years in a host of positions, will be retiring this year and is excited for her next adventures.
Patrick Griffin, the teacher for the third through fifth grade classroom, better known as the “olders,” addressed the assembled parents for a few minutes.
Jamestown has a beautiful and meaningful tradition to begin the school year. All the parents line up on the staircase entering the building, and the students enter the building through the upraised arms of the parents. This signifies the entering in the new year and into their next grade, with the support of parents and their community.
This is also a time for parents to catch up with each other, make connections again and a fun time to play on the playground again before that first bell rings. Then the teachers called the students in and the school year began at Jamestown Elementary.
