GILPIN COUNTY — During emergencies, High Country Auxiliary (HCA) provides onsite aid in the form of food and water. The nonprofit has been supporting and serving emergency services organizations in Gilpin County for over 50 years.
During a November 18 Thanksgiving potluck dinner, the environment was more relaxing than HCA and their might typically be used to. This year, the Auxiliary members invited area first responders to join them in enjoying a cornucopia of homemade salads, meats, and desserts at Gilpin County Community Center.
First responders, including Timberline Fire Chief Paul Ondr and Gilpin County Sheriff Kevin Armstrong, mixed with Auxiliary members around the tables, sharing stories and laughter.
Eddie Miller delivered the blessing before the meal, while Auxiliary President Terri Miller gave the welcome and thanked the first responders for their service and expressed how much the Auxiliary appreciated their efforts.
HCA has been supporting first responders and emergency service organizations since 1969. As well as providing on-scene aid, the Auxiliary members help purchase supplies and equipment for first responders which can’t be covered within normal agency budgets.
They also provide scholarships so firefighters and other emergency services personnel can attend training events.
Miller said the Auxiliary helped the Sheriff’s department purchase three drones for search and rescue efforts and backcountry investigations.
HCA has a website (highcountryauxiliary.com) and a Facebook page for anyone who wants to get involved in supporting the first responders and emergency services in Gilpin County.
