The spirit of Halloween came to Nederland on Friday, October 27, with Trunk or Treat at Nederland Elementary School (NES). A longstanding annual event hosted by the NES PTA that local kids and families look forward to each Halloween season.

This year over 20 vehicles were set up with decorated trunks ready to hand out candy and embrace the meaning of community. The creativity of the truck decorating is enough to impress. There was a farm, Super Mario, the Twister game, and even the Argo Mine to crawl through.

And the costumes from the very young to the adults were so much fun. Two dinosaurs came out of the woods to join the festivities. Elsa and Olaf were there. There was Spiderman, a dragon, and a knight. There was a family dressed as a bat, a fly, a spider and a bug. There were some lions, a unicorn, a hot dog, and a chicken.

It is especially enjoyable to see middle and high school kids join the event as well. This really is an event that welcomes all ages. It is a safe social gathering that everyone can enjoy.

For the last several years NES parent Cameron Troy has been organizing the event. She will be passing on that responsibility to other willing and able PTA parents next year as her youngest child will be going to middle school next year. Thank you Cameron for all your dedication to Trunk or Treat.

Happy Halloween!
