Gilpin Track sets another record

With three meets remaining on their schedule this year, the Gilpin Track and Field Team traveled to Longmont on May 5 & 6 to face 12 other rival programs in the always fun and ever exciting Mile High League Meet. Longs Peak and NCAC Leagues would also be there. Times tend to be faster and distances farther this time of year as student-athletes hone their skills with an eye toward qualifying for the Colorado State Championships held May 18-20 in Lakewood.

Ryan Hanssen shaved 2.3 seconds off his previous best in the 200m. Not to be outdone by his teammate, Maximus Tanner ran his fastest-ever 800m by bettering his old mark by a full 16 seconds. Avery Ramsey, Makenzie Marr, Alison Antill, and Jiselle Osteboe of the Girls 4x200m relay team had set a Gilpin school record merely three days before at the Highland Twilight Invitational. That new mark figured to be in jeopardy again.

A sixth-place finisher in the 300m hurdles at last year’s state championships, Avery Ramsey shot out of the starting blocks like a cannon giving Makenzie Marr and Alison Antill a leg up for the middle portion of the race. Anchor Jiselle Osteboe took the seamless handoff of the baton and blazed across the finish line, bettering their record by an astonishing 2.4 seconds! At the moment anyway, the Gilpin High School record in the Girls 4x200m stands at 2:08.00.
