Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. The Gilpin Volleyball teams will open their season at home with an all-day tournament next Friday, September 4, in the Gilpin School gyms.
Included in the tournament will be Lake County, Denver Waldorf, Nederland, Soroco, and Shining Mountain Waldorf. The Eagles will have their first game at 10 a.m. versus Lake County in the main gym and will play again at 3 p.m. against Denver Waldorf.
At the end of the day, there will be matches for all places with the championship match occurring at around 8 p.m.
Throughout the day, the Junior Varsity teams will play in the auxiliary gym, beginning with Nederland against Soroco and then at 11:15, Gilpin versus Lake County.
All matches will be the best two out of three. The first two games will score to 25 and must be won by two points. The third game will be played to 15 points.
This season opener tournament is always an indicator of strengths and weaknesses and is a fun but hard day for the players.
The Gilpin players are young and eager, working hard to prepare for the season.
