NEDERLAND – We’ve come a long way from B&F’s Mountain Burger served before the pandemic to sushi at The Market at Nederland (the grocery store’s new name) beginning on May 22.
While the beloved bygone Mountain Burger had its place, the new sushi bar located next to the deli where the burgers were once sold is already proving to be popular. Over 150 trays of sushi have flown off their shelves each day since opening.
The sushi bar is owned by Ace Sushi. They now operate five sushi bars in the Denver area. Store Opener/Trainer Matthew Hyland and Master Sushi Chef and Regional Manager Pau Khual have both been onsite to ensure everything is just right and to guarantee a seamless launch. A permanent sushi chef will be brought in June 1.
Mixing one gallon of cooked short-grain sushi rice and eight ounces of sushi vinegar together is the first step in making sushi rolls. The vinegar is sweet and acts as a preservative, killing any bacteria that may be present. The rice is then wrapped in a sheet of nori seaweed, along with the chosen meat and vegetables.
Only fresh ingredients are used. Any food in their refrigerated display case that isn’t sold within one day is discarded.
Sushi-grade raw salmon is vacuum-packed and flash-frozen in Canada or Alaska and thawed for preparation. The same is true of the tuna and shrimp shipped in from Indonesia.
For starters, you might try the seaweed salad. Following that up with spring rolls with a dab of wasabi and dipped in soy sauce is an excellent choice.
The Skinny Fresh Summer Wrap contains shrimp, crab, avocados, cucumbers, and carrots. Nigiri is an elongated mound of rice draped with a slice of salmon, tuna, or shrimp. The Rainbow Rolls include all three meats.
Sriracha chili sauce adds a kick to a few of their offerings. The California Crunch Roll is delightfully delicious sprinkled with fried onions and drizzled in sushi sauce. Teriyaki Tofu, Teriyaki Chicken, and Sukiyaki Beef are available as hot dishes. Flavored boba tea with tapioca pearls and milk compliments the delectable fare.
Ace Sushi is located inside The Market at Nederland at the Caribou Village Shopping Center, 60 Lakeview Drive, Nederland.
