Omayra Acevedo, Peak to Peak. The very tip of my toes reached for the tub in slight hesitation. The rest of my body tensed by the unknown of 125 degrees of pure mineral water. Suddenly, my skin felt comfort it had never known before. My mind relaxed and life was great again. It was my first time in a hot spring bath. I had just completed my first fourteener hike in Colorado. I was achy, sore and could barely move. A good soak was all I needed. Needless to say, I had found one of my many Colorado addictions.
One of my favorite – and not so far- hot springs, are the Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Less than one-hour drive from Denver. From a community pool to private tubs, indoor or outdoor, this charming little place has huge amenities. You can soak while others relish in a personalized massage, and you can even return to your very own room or cabin, so you don’t have to rush home after feeling so Zen. Most accommodations include time in the hot springs, a meal voucher and a discount on other goodies.
Another do-not-miss hot spring is the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
This one is a bit further away, but without question or hesitation, it is definitely worth the drive. You not only get to see more of the majestic Rocky Mountains via I-70 and Glenwood Canyon, but the abundance of overlooks and wildlife you can encounter are endless. Glenwood Hot Springs Resort also has a spa, lodge, packages and amenities. Don’t forget to check out the town of Glenwood Springs. An array of historical experiences awaits, and not too far from the springs themselves. I won’t give too much away, but trust me when I tell you, you must add this to your summer get-away list.
If my memory serves me right, I believe there are roughly 30 hot springs in Colorado. No matter where you are, you can always find your way to one. Why not? You deserve some of life’s little pleasures. We all do. Since the time of Buffalo Bill Cody and the Ute and Arapahoe Indians, many wounded and sick individuals turned to natural hot springs for their healing properties. I for one, don’t doubt that for one second. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve visited a Colorado hot spring, but I can tell you that every penny is worth it, and even more so, the feeling that takes you over once you are done, well, let’s just say there’s nothing in the world quite like it.
