The Boulder County Board of County Commissioners conducted a reorganizing meeting on January 11, 2022. Commissioner Chair Matt Jones said they do this every year.
The Board elected Commissioner Marta Loachamin as chair and Claire Levy as vice chair.
During Commissioners’ comments, Levy said she has been here for a year and thanked the division and department directors who helped her. She added that staff has done an incredible job responding to community needs, including managing the COVID recovery center.
Commissioner Marta Loachamin said it has been a full year, with much happening that many residents don’t know about, including the ability for IT to continue preparing for policy changes, and addressing the Commission’s role.
It’s a testament to Boulder County staff, she said. She continues to work virtually with the third hall under construction. The Public Works department has continued to show up to clean and perform maintenance despite the health risks.
Commissioner Matt Jones thanked the staff who provide services to people. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes, he noted. People work hard to make local government work and to protect the environment. The other theme, he believes, is how good this organization is in a difficult situation.
“You can see it with COVID and you see it in the Calwood and Marshall fires. People know what they were doing,” Jones said. He added, “The County will experience fires and floods every three years… .I’ve been in three years and am thankful for that.” The County reached 100 percent renewable energy in all county buildings, and the elected officials do remarkable work, too.
The Board designated the Official Newspapers for 2022 as the Boulder Daily Camera and Longmont Daily Times-Call and designated the Official Meeting Days of the Board of County Commissioners and directed posting of notice of meetings.
The Board appointed the following to serve at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners:

Human Resources Director – Julia Larsen
Community Services Director – Robin Bohannan
