Ars Nova Singers: Darkness & Light, a winter solstice concert in Boulder

Posted

Every culture that has ever endured a winter has arrived at the same two words: darkness and light. The winter solstice reminds us that even in the darkness there is light, and still more light to come.

Celebrate the season with Ars Nova Singers, Boulder's chamber choir, in a convergence of luminous medieval harmonies, joyous Renaissance motets and favorite carols in new arrangements. The program moves from Hildegard of Bingen's "Ave Maria, O auctrix vitae" and the 15th-century English carol "This gentil day daws" to Alf Houkom's "The Rune of Hospitality," balancing the new, the traditional and the familiar.

Special guest Gavin Kitchen, principal percussionist of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra, joins on vibraphone and percussion.

Two Boulder performances: Thursday, December 17 and Saturday, December 19 at 7:30 p.m., Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place, Boulder. Also in Longmont (Dec 10), Denver (Dec 13) and by livestream.
