Wrestlers strive for State

Barbara Lawlor, Gilpin County. On Saturday, the Gilpin County Youth Wrestlers who were not entered into State tournaments competed in their last Metro League JV tournament. The 12 wrestled who competed in the event took home 12 medals.

The first place medal winners are: Roland Keller, U8, 45 lbs; Brennin Oliver, U8, 50 lbs; William Siegrist, U10, 105 lbs; Michael Wenholz, U12, 85 lbs.

Second Place winners: Joey Morgan, U10, 65 lbs; Kyler Raybourne, U10, 105 lbs.

Coach Pete Morgan says, "I was very proud of Kyler, he wrestled very hard and got his first win and medal on Saturday."

Third place winners: Keggin Murdoch, U10, 50 lbs; Kylar Lamer, U10, 55 lbs; Penn Keller, U10, 60 lbs; Kage Anthony, U12, 75 lbs.

Fourth Place: Bob Grapes, U10, 95 lbs.

"All of these kids worked so hard this season," says Coach Morgan. "I am proud of each and every one of them."

On Saturday five wrestled who are entered in the Regional Championship at Bennett. Included are: Cooley Murdoch, Bradley Robinson, Joey Ariola, Kaleb Oliver, and Mateo Maldenado.  These boys will be fighting for the top spots and a chance to enter the League championships in three weeks.

The top two finishers at League go on to enter the Wild West Showdown, the State championship.
