Why voting is so important

Posted

BLACK HAWK — This week I was honored to bring the 2026 Candidates Forum to Nederland once again. The forums are events we organize to help engage the community in the election process.

In Nederland, we hold these at the Nederland Community Library. Special thanks to Elektra Greer for always making it happen and for hosting us.

The questions are solicited from the public, through the newspaper, our social media, and local social media pages. The information is always on our website as well.

We started with an introduction from each candidate, and it went from there.

We received 18 total questions for the forum. We were able to combine eight of them, as they were basically the same question. And we had two we could not ask because they were about information the members could not legally answer (related to the Eldora purchase).

With two candidates running for Mayor and three for the Board of Trustees, that allowed 32 total answers to our general questions. We then had a lightning round of four questions (30 seconds each to answer). That was a fun new twist to our forums, I think you’ll see it again at our next one.

As usual, we recorded the forum. You can find it on our YouTube here: youtube.com/live/fKGpalHSHsQ?si=N_BJ5lrPwF0dsEID

You’ll also find a full news article in the edition of The Mountain-Ear, on pages  ___ to ____ as well as candidate profiles in this edition on pages ____ to ____.

Please, if you live in Nederland, read these important articles, watch the YouTube recording, and talk with these individual candidates. The future Board of Trustees has a lot of work to do.

Vote with your conscience, vote for the people that represent your ideas of what Nederland will look like next week, next month, next year, and 10 years down the road.

And as always, thanks to the candidates for coming to the forum to share their ideas for Nederland. And to the citizens that came out to listen.
