Dear Nederland neighbors and friends,
Why vigils, you may ask, and wonder.
Since before 1985 when the Nederland area Mountain Forum for Peace became a bona fide 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, we have been supporting peace and justice causes.
Initially, Mountain Forum for Peace was protesting above-ground nuclear bomb tests in Nevada, and now we are joining millions of Americans devastated by a long symphony of deleterious governmental actions impinging on the rights and enjoyment of rights of ordinary citizens in the vicinity of Nederland, Colorado.
These government actions include but are not limited to the ending of support for Public Television and Radio, and a war on science and scientists. Many are connected to major institutions like NOAA, National Resources Conservation, or NIST, etc.
We also want to bring to light the cruel treatment of asylum-seekers that are attempting to save their lives by legally moving to the United States.
There is also the danger to healthcare, Medicaid and Medicare, and Social Security. There’s the destruction of the gains made by the Voting Rights Act, book-banning in schools and libraries, and the brutal dismantling of laws and legislation relating to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
So we will continue to go into the streets to protect all of our neighbors from the ruthless changes being made every day and announced unabashedly by White supremacists, following the Project 2025 blueprint.
Join up with YOUR signs and smiles every first Saturday of the month. We meet at the Mountain Forum for Peace Sculpture Garden, near the traffic circle in Nederland from 10 to 11 a.m.
All are welcome, to help save Democracy and our constitution.
