Fee Increases for Community Center Fees for Parks & Recreation are increasing nominally starting March 1, 2024. On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) approved a new fee schedule for Parks & Rec which would help offset inflation costs as the fees have not been raised in three years. These new fees will only cover a small portion of the costs to run the Community Center. The rest of the costs will be covered by the Parks & Rec fund carry-over from last year, insurance payments, grants, and primarily from the County’s General Fund.

If the new fee structure causes a financial hardship, there are several options available:

Scholarships are available through Friends of Gilpin County Community Center Heart of the Community Fund (https://gilpincommunitycenter.org/ heart-of-the-community-fund/).

• If you are 60 years of age or older and a Gilpin County resident, you can receive a scholarship for classes at the Gilpin County Community Center through our Human Services department. These funds were donated to our program by local citizens, families of deceased members, and local businesses. There are no forms to fill out or eligibility requirements. To donate to this fund or to request a scholarship please call Mary Ellen at 303-582-5444.

• Veterans and Human Services clients receive a 30% discount.

Please note the following free services that will not change:

• Senior lunch and Senior Fit classes.

• Admission for residents enrolled in SilverSneakers, Active Renew, or Silver & Fit through their insurance.

• The Eagles Teen program (grant-funded).
