Dear Editor,
For over 75 years, Warren Miller movies have been the unofficial start to winter and a place for the ski community to get excited about their favorite sport.
For the past three years, Nederland has continued our own tradition of celebrating the start of winter by showing the latest Warren Miller movie at our own Backdoor Theatre as a fundraiser for the alpine and Nordic ski teams. These teams are based out of the Nederland Middle and High School, but also include athletes from all schools in the Boulder Valley School District as well as schools in the surrounding area.
For the past three seasons, the theater has been packed, crockpots have been brimming with chili, and the audience—filled with locals, athletes and parents—joins together to support our teams and cheer on the start of winter.
The event wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of the Backdoor Theatre and the Nederland Community Center, specifically Kayla Evans, Guy Falsetti and Dawn Baumhover. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Eldora Mountain Resort for their continued support of the ski teams as our home mountain and training venue. Thanks also to all who donated prizes for the special drawing including Eldora, La Sportiva, Ned General, Crosscut, Tin Shed Sports, Eldora Mountain Ski & Snowboard Club, the Town of Nederland, Ned Jazz and Wine Festival and the Nederland Community Library.
Thanks also to all who came out and supported our young athletes and helped keep up the tradition of celebrating the start of winter in community.
