Dear Editor,
Earlier this summer, 21 volunteers joined The Watershed Center, Allenspark Fire Protection District, and Boulder County Wildfire Partners for a community wildfire mitigation event in Allenspark. Local businesses including Cemex and FNBO sponsored the event.
During the three-hour effort, volunteers helped 10 households remove vegetation and other flammable materials from around their homes to reduce wildfire risk and improve safety for residents and first responders. Together, volunteers filled more than 38 yard-waste bags with flammable vegetation, removed more than six pickup-truck loads of combustible material and filled four 30-yard dumpsters with household debris, yard waste and other vegetation.
The project demonstrated the impact of community-wide collaboration to help mountain communities for the wildfire seasons and create more resilient neighborhoods.
