Marshal Paul Carrill, Nederland Police Department. The Nederland Police Department is looking for a local volunteer for its Operations Support Unit (OSU).
The OSU Volunteer would work for the Nederland Police Department and provide support to the daily operations of the NPD. The perfect candidate would be a local Nederland area resident that is able to provide a minimum of 8 hours per week of un-paid volunteer service, with the understanding that additional hours maybe needed on a case by case basis. The OSU Volunteer would work directly for the Marshal and/or his designee and be responsible for such administrative duties as: Fleet operations, Traffic management, Special events support, motorist assist, Firearms/armory support, etc. A complete list of job responsibilities and preferred candidate qualifications are listed below. Job responsibilities:
• Operate and be responsible for NPD vehicle(s) and equipment
• NPD Fleet management support
• NPD Traffic management support
• Special event support
• Motorist assist
• Critical Incident support
• Firearms/Armory management support
• Community Patrol support
• Code Enforcement support
• Roadway operations
• Off-road operations
• Attend NPD sponsored training (First aid, traffic management, record keeping, vehicle operations, etc…)
• Other assignments as assigned by the Marshal and/or designee
Preferred Candidate qualifications:
• Must pass criminal history background check
• Must have valid driver’s license
• Clean drivers history
• Must follow NPD Policy and Code of Conduct requirements
• Mechanically inclined
• Law enforcement interest and support
• Comfortable with written, electronic and radio communication
• Understands basic MICROSOFT computer software programs
• Mature
• Common sense
• Individual discretion
• Problem solver
• Good public speaking skills
• Confidence
• Diplomacy
• Empathy
• Special unit/Team player
• Understand and follow orders/directions
• Must wear Department issued utility uniform and safety equipment
• Physically fit (bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and moving heavy objects, etc…)
• Able to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, for extended periods of time
• Comfortable operating 4 wheel drive vehicles, on and off-road
• Comfortable driving vehicles in rain, snow, water and mud
• Comfortable operating in and around emergency/critical incidents scenes
• Comfortable hiking/walking long distances, on uneven surfaces, with heavy objects
• Comfortable in and around woodlands, water ways, mountains, etc…
• Available 24/7, weekends and holidays.
• Working telephone
• Live in or around the Town of Nederland
• Must carry a department issued pager
• Position subject to converting into paid position, depending on future funding and need
• No law enforcement powers
• No weapons allowed
