Volunteer for Rise Against Hunger

Posted

Dear Editor,

Since we became part of the Nederland and Peak to Peak Community eight years ago, we have seen on many occasions the generous spirit exhibited by so many local residents, businesses and organizations. It is an aspect of our community of which we can all point to with pride.

On Thursday, September 15, residents of all ages and abilities are offered an opportunity to practice that generous spirit by volunteering for a food packaging event at TEENS, Inc. We need 60 volunteers to spend two hours to help package meals for RISE AGAINST HUNGER. Together we will package 10,000 meals to be distributed internationally to alleviate hunger. Students can earn community service hours by volunteering for this fun event. Those who need to be seated to participate will be accommodated.

RISE AGAINST HUNGER is an international organization that has been supporting the global movement to end world hunger since 1998. Our community, led by the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church, participated in this event from 2014 - 2019 and are resuming this mission after a recess due to COVID.

Joining Ned Pres in sponsoring the event are the Nederland Lions Club, Peak to Peak Rotary and TEENS, Inc. Ned Pres will be selling Christmas wreaths to provide additional funding for this project. You may order wreaths at the event for delivery before the holidays. Other sponsorships are welcome.

Please mark your calendar for Thursday, September 15 from 6-8 p.m. to participate in this fun and worthwhile event. Please contact Margie Yansura at 561-313-5028 or mywordsmith@bellsouth.net with questions, to become a sponsor or to sign up to volunteer.
