Boulder County Housing Authority. We hope this finds you well during this time of significant challenge to our community brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. These are difficult days for many of us, and Boulder County Housing and Human Services continues to do all we can to get resources and supports to those who need them. Please visit www.boco.org/COVID-19Resources for a full list of services and assistance. In particular, help is available with food, financial assistance, child care, and health coverage; protections are in place for renters and help is available for landlords; assistance for non-profits and businesses is being provided; and there are mental and emotional health supports available. If you need help in any of these areas or others, please visit the Resources page and apply or reach out for assistance.
We also have an update for you on Tungsten Village, our newest upcoming neighborhood of affordable homes in Nederland.
The Boulder County Housing Authority (BCHA) will be accepting online applications for Tungsten Village on May 7, 2020. Given the continued need for physical distancing, we will be completing this process online, and will be establishing virtual assistance centers to help with questions regarding the application process. BCHA will continue to provide updates regarding the application process and the virtual assistance options on our website as we finalize the details.
Construction on Tungsten Village is progressing well and continues to move forward on schedule for a late-July completion. Contractors are working toward completing all exterior building finishes by the end of April. Internal building work, occurring simultaneously, is expected to be completed by mid-May. Site finish work, including grading and paving, and installing site signage, amenities, and landscaping is anticipated to begin soon and be completed by mid-July.
Ensuring Tungsten Village progresses with construction safely through this difficult period of time helps our design and construction families maintain their household incomes while also staying on the path to deliver more affordable housing for the Nederland community at such a critical time.
Since construction began, BCHA staff, contractors, and architects have been communicating weekly to inform progress, confirm plans, and discuss potential obstacles. As the local COVID-19 situation has evolved, Milender White’s construction staff continue to provide the team with timely updates as they take strict precautions to prevent delays while maintaining a safe workplace for employees, subcontractors, and neighboring residents.
BCHA and Milender White have developed a COVID-19 site protection plan with additional sanitizing stations, implemented controls, and scheduled times for staff to be in particular work areas and adhere to structured lunch breaks to help ensure physical distancing. All engineering and design teams are meeting virtually, including reviewing architectural and engineering plans electronically through shared screens and teleconferencing for virtual inspections and site walks for real-time problem solving in the field.
The following is a general timeline of the Tungsten Village application/lease-up processes:
May 7, 2020: Application Release
Early Summer 2020: Tenant Screening/Lease-Up
August 2020: Construction Completion
September 2020: Tenant Move-in
The Boulder County Housing Authority extends a big “thank you” to the Town of Nederland and members of the Peak to Peak Housing and Human Services Alliance for their support, input and outreach to members of the community.
