After a canceled 2020 production of Tales of A Jedi Kid due to COVID-19, the Gilpin County High School Theater Department will be performing a stage adaptation of Natalie Babbitt’s American children’s novel Tuck Everlasting this coming spring. While originally a Broadway musical in 2016, this show will be a straight play that will feature a small cast of just 10 high school students. Director Hannah Raynes says, “This year’s production will feature one of our strongest groups of actors, including many seniors acting on stage and working backstage with production and set design.”
The play tells the story of young Winnie Foster (played by Cassidy Wood) and her exciting adventure as she meets a mysterious immortal family called the Tucks. After befriending the Tucks and learning about their past, Winnie must face the difficult decision of whether or not she wants to live forever, or continue to live her life as she is meant to.
If you want to know more about Winnie’s journey and you are interested in supporting the theater department, the show will be put on in the Gilpin County School auditorium.
Hannah Raynes and the rest of the cast are “happy to be back in the theater together and can’t wait to see family, friends and community members back in our Miller Auditorium for our shows in May.” We hope to see you there!
The show will be performed on Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6, at 7 p.m., as well as on Saturday, May 7 at noon.
Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the show for $12 for adults or $7 for students.
The Gilpin County School is located at 10595 Highway 119, Black Hawk. To find out more about events and sport schedules, check out https://gilpin.k12. co.us/en-US/calendar.
