There are not a lot of late night options for Nederland residents, especially for the youth and for those who don’t drink. Owner Jesse Fox and the whole team at Train Cars Coffee & Kava have changed that with the introduction of late night hours and fresh, new events.
Beginning on Thursday, April 20, 2023, and lasting through Saturday night and well into Sunday morning, the popular morning spot for great coffee and breakfast held special events to commemorate the beginning of their late night Kava Bar hours. DJ £.Z€R° provided chill reggae dubstep on Thursday night during a special potluck event, and Karaoke Phil hosted karaoke until 10 p.m. on Friday night.
Saturday, April 22, 2023, was the second Bulas and Beats, which featured three distinct talents who took the electronic helm and turned the Train Cars into a thrashing nightclub.
Jelli provided the beats for the first set of the night, taking the controls at 9 p.m. and crafted a welcoming vibe with his bright and ethereal EDM creations. The second act of the night, B Random, transitioned seamlessly into his own style, making waves across the crowd with dance club remixes of Wonderwall and No Scrubs.
Glipish took the helm at 11:45 p.m. and finished the night, inciting the crowd to dance until 1 a.m. by delivering a more feverish and intense style, with an industrial and harsh EBM influence.
The framed artwork that adorns the walls of the Train Cars was shaking rhythmically from the thumping bass reverberating the whole interior. The floor vibrated with the collective stomping of the packed crowd’s dancing feet.
Fox worked throughout the party, providing dancers with new signature Kava-based mocktails, such as the premium ginger beer and Kava mixture the Maui Mule, which helped to accentuate the high-energy vibes that crackled like electricity in the air.
The first Bulas and Beats featured the same trio of artists during Nederdays weekend, on March 25, and was the start of a great new tradition at the Train Cars. The name of the event comes from the Fijian word Bula, which means “life” (among many other things), and is the common cheer shouted by the Kava community.
With events like Bulas and Beats Fox and the Train Cars team hopes to cultivate a new type of late night atmosphere for all ages who are interested in a safe, alcohol-free atmosphere where inhibitions can be lost while dancing the night away.
Train Cars Coffee & Kava is located at 101 Highway 119 in Nederland and is currently open Monday through Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new summer hours will begin on April 20, 2023, and will have the Train Cars staying open late Thursdays through Saturdays.
