CENTRAL CITY — Central City is getting ready to glow for the Tommyknockers Christmas weekend. Festivities begin Friday, December 5, at 6:30 p.m. with a tree lighting at Spring and Main Streets.

Central City Opera singers will lead carolers from the tree to the Teller House for a cozy Community Potluck immediately afterward, and will keep the music going throughout the evening. Guests are asked to bring a dish to share. Dishes can be dropped off at the Teller House starting at 5:30 p.m., before the tree lighting.

The celebration continues with the Tommyknocker Holiday Bazaar at the Teller House on Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Shoppers will find more than 30 vendor booths, visits with Father Christmas, cookie decorating, a children’s coloring contest, and a Victorian costume contest. A hearty menu will be available for purchase, including potato soup, chili, hot turkey sandwiches, chicken salad, tuna salad, and pie.

This year, Main Street Central City is also inviting residents to help light up the town in a new way. Instead of a traditional lighting contest, the first 25 Central City residents who submit photos of their homes decorated with outdoor holiday lights and décor will receive a $50 “Thank You” from Main Street Central City.

Entries are for exterior décor only, including condominiums and apartments, and are limited to one per household. Submissions open Monday, December 1, and close December 15 at 5 p.m. To enter, email a photo of your decorated home, along with your address and contact information, to dmwightman@yahoo.com.
