This holiday is a very special day for me because I’ve been lucky enough to be a mom for over 30 years. Wow, where has the time gone?
Matthew led the way. He’s my oldest (and he’d say wisest) son. My first born, my heart has been overflowing ever since. I miss him a lot, as he wanders the country in his job in the military.
Ali was born next and she’s been sassy since day one. She is strong-willed and doesn’t put up with any guff from anyone. She is a caregiver like me, taking in strays (mostly four-legged in her case). She’s living her dream close by, in Wyoming.
Allison is my third and definitely takes after me (though she wouldn’t admit it). She was my longest labor and hasn’t slowed down since the day she was born. She grabs onto the zest of life in everything she does and is my free-spirited child.
Hayden has been my rock the last few years as everyone else has moved on in their lives. This year my youngest son will graduate and move into some new life young people move into.. and I’ll be an empty nester. I don’t even know what that means yet.
I have been so lucky to be part of the lives of these amazing humans. And more than that, they have been the focus and center of my life for so long, I have truly been a blessed mama.
This Mother’s Day, I hope to spend some time with my kids that are close enough to visit. And maybe a nice phone call with the ones that can’t make it. Maybe next year I’ll have some new wisdom, with a fresh perspective. In the meantime, I’m gonna enjoy these moments, every one of them.
