It’s hard to believe that May is only a few days away. For some people, May marks the beginning of many things, including numerous celebrations. May comes from the Latin word Maius, named after the Greek Goddess Maia. According to legend, Maia embodied the concept of growth in nature and beyond.
May is known for Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. But if you’re looking for other reasons to celebrate the middle of spring, here are a few to consider. Arthritis Awareness, Better Sleep, Mental Health Awareness, National Walking, and Women’s Health Care are great excuses to celebrate all month.
Living in a state with a rich past, it’s no surprise that month-long celebrations also include History Preservation Month in Colorado.
Be Kind to Animals is a celebration often occurring during the first week of May, as is Nurses Week. Week two of the month is the perfect time to start getting ready for your summer garden, hiking, and all things blooming with Wildflower Week.
By the third week of May, you might see a plethora of motorbikes and bicycles taking over our mountain roads as National Bike Week gets underway. With more and more users on our roads, let’s give thanks to the men and women of law enforcement during National Police Week, taking place on the third week of month.
The fourth week offers recognition to our other heroes during Emergency Medical Services Week. But wait, there’s more! More? Yes, more.
Other fun celebratory opportunities in May include Bike to School Day, the first Wednesday of the month. On May 11, you can all say goodbye to your diet (at least for one day) as you partake in Eat What You Want Day.
Keep your home a little cleaner on May 18 with No Dirty Dishes Day. May 22 calls all musicians for Buy a Musical Instrument Day. I think Nederland has a pretty nifty music store with great options and prices.
National Macaroon Day, Save Your Hearing Day, and World No Tobacco Day can all be celebrated on the very last day in May. There you have it. A plethora of reasons to celebrate the month of May. Please remember to do so responsibly.
