These are the kind of things I am told every time I sit at a booth. And I absolutely love it. I am so thankful to have so much support from the community for this old mountain newspaper.
We run a lot of surveys to figure out if we are covering what you want covered. And we get a lot of very positive feedback. We also get suggestions for coverage that turn into great articles or columns.
I wanted to mention a few very cool things we have coming up. First, it’s almost election season and we are working on our candidate profiles. Candidates will receive the questions soon, and we will print them verbatim in the paper at the end of the month.

On August 28, we’ll be opening our Best of the Peaks 2026 survey, offering you, the reader, the chance to support your favorite local businesses up and down the Peak to Peak region. This time around, we’re going big — we’ve revamped our survey software for a fun, clean voting experience, and if you’re out in about in town, be on the lookout for voting posters — one quick QR code scan, and you’ll be taken to vote.themtnear.com, where you can cast your ballot. Results will be revealed in our big annual print edition late this year.
