On August 1, a Nederland officer on a routine patrol saw a woman come out of a building and throw an object at a car parked in the front yard. When the officer approached a male said he and the woman were fighting, that she had been upset for the last few days and stuck in the house with a sick child. He said she blamed him and that the couple had three children together.
The woman was crying and said she wanted to move and that she was afraid of being manipulated and controlled, without money and didn’t want to live like this any more and wanted to move to where her family was. The officer noted that the woman had thrown a water bottle at the car and there was a mark on the car door that matched the bottle.
The officers told the woman they had no choice but to take her to jail because she was the aggressor. She was placed into custody and transported to Boulder County Jail without incident and the children were placed in custody of the father.
After leaving the mother in jail, the officer contacted Safe House to have them check on the woman and make arrangements for feeding the nine-month old babyand helping her with someplace to go.
On August 3, a man called the NPD from the visitor’s center saying he had a dog in custody. The young male chocolate lab was taken to the veterinarian. The owner came in a short time later saying his dog was missing and was told he needed to purchase town dog tags.
On August 3, two vehicle were parked in a location where there were no residences and no camping. The officer talked to five people in one of the cars and when he cleared them with dispatch found that one of the men had two Failure to Appear Warrants from Boulder Police. He was taken into custody and transported to the BCJ.
On August 4, a West Magnolia camper reported that a silver Jeep had crashed near the campsite. He said there had bee several cars racing and driving crazy around the area and he thought the Jeff was probably stolen. Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found the Jeep and talked to the three men who were camped in the area. They said the occupants of the car tried to push and drive the Jeep off a stump it was high-centered on but were unsuccessful so they caught a ride out of the area.
When the deputies looked in vehicle they saw a large stack of dealer temporary paper license plates. He learned there were several stolen cars from Longmont. While the Ned officer searched the area he found front end parts from the Jeep and a few miles south he found the front bumper cover and grill of a silver Mercury, one of the stolen vehicles.
The Mercury was found off the road about 200 yards from the Jeep. Three suspects were identified in the thefts and the report was forwarded to the BCSO.
On August 4, an officer made a traffic stop on a a person who crossed the double yellow line in the middle of the road. The driver had a felony warrant for possession of marijuana concentrate with intent to distribute. The man was placed into custody and taken to the BCJ.
On August 7, a person reported that someone broke into his apartment and took candy from his refrigerator and cigarettes from his dresser drawer. He said he has had the locks to the apartment changed numerous times. At this time there are no leads or suspects.
On August 7, an Nederland officer noticed two men walking down a path near Big Springs which often used by illegal campers. One of them was a transient male who had been arrested before. He was with his brother. The men said they were staying at West Magnolia and just walking into town. One of them said he thought there was a warrant for his arrest. He was right. There were two failures to appear and the man was placed into custody and taken to the BCJ.
On August 12, a report of criminal trespass was made to the NPD. The officer met with the person reporting the incident who said items were stolen from a vehicle: a Gerber folding knife with rubber handle worth $50, a large blade hunting/survival knife worth $100 and a pair of prescription glasses used to drive at night. The glasses were in an Oakley case and worth $300. Apparently the suspect is a long-time friend of the suspect.
On August. 17, an officer noticed a female hitch hiking on Hwy 119 and recognized her from a Be On the Lookout for poster. The female had three FTA warrants out of Boulder with bonds totaling $725. She was taken into custody and transported to BCJ.
On August 18, a report of a shoplifter in custody was received at the NPD. When the officer approached he saw a group of Rainbow Family looking adults and an employee pointing away from the store. He was told the suspect had jumped from a balcony level onto a short roof and then to the ground floor and ran towards the creek. The suspects clothes were dirty and torn and looked as if he was wearing a dress.
Two officers searched the creek and one of them saw the suspect walking on the trail. He was taken into custody when he admitted he stole an apple. When they returned to the store, an employee had the man’s cell phone which he had left while in the store. A pack of gum and dry tea was also found during a search. He was issued a summons and returned to his friends.
On August 29, a Nederland officer received a report of a domestic in progress. A man had just put a hole in the person’s windshield with a hammer. The officer contacted the female who showed him her vehicle and said her husband had done it, that he also smashed her wedding ring with the hammer.
She said the man called her names and made accusations against her and that they were going through a divorce. He later admitted to being upset and smashing the ring and windshield. He said he was upset that his wife was cheating on him. The man was placed into custody charged with domestic violence, criminal mischief and harassment and taken to the BCJ.
