Hello dear public,
Starting on Sunday May 25, the doors at the Nederland Community Center shall open once again, to allow you, the public, to drop off items for re-use, and then, for a weekend, come explore and purchase wonderful deals on those amazing gizmos you always wanted.
This is the Mountain Forum for Peace Yard Sale.
Behind the scenes is the story of labor done by a handful of volunteers. If I may have a moment to enlighten you.
A day before the “drop off” begins, all the shelves and clothing racks are laboriously carted down the long hall and stairs from the West Wing to be set up throughout the community center.
Then the fun begins: the doors open on Sunday for “drop off” to begin. Bags, boxes and items of all sizes come in. Clothes are sorted and hung and boxes are lifted and emptied, carts pushed here and there. Tools, housewares, furniture, sporting goods, jewelry, toys, books, and “what the blazes are those things?” take up every inch of the upper community center.
Come Thursday, no more “drop offs,” but a final day of getting all priced and ready.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the sale opens as the volunteers help you, the public, find and take home those wonderful discoveries.
THE BIG MIRACLE: Sunday afternoon, the doors are closed, the sale is over. Yet hundreds of items still remain. In the next four hours volunteers re-bag, re-box, and re-cart items to the back doors, down a long set of stairs to an awaiting semi truck destined for a thrift store. Amid the chaos the racks and tables are taken down, back to storage. And finally a sweep. Whew! Somehow it always gets done!
All this in an attempt to keep some Sanity and Peace in our world!

Thank you dear public.
