NEDERLAND — After months of waiting for various procedures and processes, and after the fire in October at the Caribou Village Shopping Center changes are finally taking place.
An excavator has come in and taken down what is left of the structure bit by bit. One could hear the scraping of metal and the breaking of glass. There are heaps of charred beams and twisted metal. There is a pile of metal, now blackened, chairs that patrons once sat on. There are appliances and pipes that kept the businesses and building functioning.
Most of all, I see the burned piles and remember the businesses that thrived here. I remember the laundromat that was a lifeline for people. Much was lost.
Our hearts hurt.
Cleaning up the burned structure can help with healing. Smile at the fond memories and move forward with hope.
