The business of beer

Posted

Omayra Acevedo, Nederland. Imagine losing the ability to support the community you live in and cherish; perhaps, even losing a large percentage of your income, and struggling through one of the worst years in human history. You most likely don’t need to imagine, as it is what most of us have experienced since the outbreak of Covid-19. But now, imagine, not only having the power, but the willingness to continue to help your community, regardless of your own personal struggles. That’s exactly what Very Nice Brewing Company (VNBC) owners, Jeffrey and Susan Green, are doing. And they are doing it in the most creative and tasty way possible.

Jeff and Suzy have always found it important, as a small local business, to be engaged with the community. Which is why, prior to the pandemic, they were huge on charitable giving to various local causes. And considering they are small, and an awesome place, at that, they have managed to give over $22,000 through their beer programs. Sadly, the year 2020 forced them to put their generous contributions on hold. Yet, it didn’t stop VNBC from staying focused on the things that matter most to them: surviving and their community.

Luckily, through the distribution of bottles, Very Nice Brewing Company has been able to keep their operations going, even when their struggles are not getting easier. So, what are they doing to show their gratitude, humbleness, and appreciation for the community that has helped them thrive? By turning their beer bottle labels into a brilliant support system. Any small business can submit their logo/artwork. Then, it is formatted to fit the label of their most popular beer: The Royal WE IPA. From there, anyone who purchases or sets their eyes on the Royal WE IPA bottle, is introduced to a neighboring business.

They have yet to turn anyone down. If you find that your business could benefit from such an endeavor, I urge you to contact VNBC. I do know that Suzy and Jeff like it when the owners themselves are on the label. Jeff says, “It shows that these businesses are not faceless corporations, but real people who are part of our community, behind them.” What a beautiful thought and gesture. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, and I will continue to say it; Very Nice Brewing Company is my favorite place to go for a drink. Not just because they have amazing beer, but because they are who they are. Cheers to you, Suzy and Jeff!
