Dear Editor,
Thank you Peak to Peak community and The Mountain-Ear for making the Gilpin Food Pantry drive thru food drive a success. We had 21 cars come through on Saturday with boxes and bags of groceries. Enough to keep the volunteers busy. There were also many donations brought in the week after by folks that couldn’t make it on Saturday.
I would also like to thank everyone that put donations in the collection boxes at the library, community center, courthouse in Central City and at Dostal Alley.
I also want to thank all the terrific volunteers that make the Gilpin Food Pantry happen. Without volunteers to unload the truck every second Wednesday of the month it would be an overwhelming task. There are volunteers that stock the shelves, folks that sort and check expiration dates on donations. People give their time to help keep our little pantry clean and make bags of pet food for our furry family members. And the great crew that shows up on Thursday for shopping day.
Thank you to The Mountain-Ear, who helped get the word out by giving space in the paper to let readers know dates, times, and location of holiday collection boxes. A special thanks to Rudy’s bakery for delivering six boxes of organic bread to the pantry every Thursday. And the Colorado Pet Pantry where volunteers are able to pick up 400 lbs. of pet food every month.
The outpouring of support from volunteers, community partners, and Peak to Peak community members that showed up to donate to the pantry makes it clear that the Gilpin County Food Pantry is an integral part of our community.
Sincerely,
Roxy Goss
