Dear Editor,
I visited my daughter and grandkids, who attend Gilpin County Elementary, last week and when we learned the high school was putting on a production of “Tuck Everlasting,” I couldn’t wait to see it. My daughter and I along with my grandson (9) and granddaughter (5) decided to go on Thursday night.
What a wonderful outing that turned out to be. I have always loved attending amateur performances put on by the schools and this one exceeded my expectations. I was more than just familiar with the play based on a young children’s book written by Natalie Babbitt and published in 1975. While getting my teaching certificate in the late 80s, I did a project around this story. It is a great story dealing with immortality and even had a movie made about it.
I was greatly impressed by the acting of the students as well as the impressive costuming. On a level above high school production expectations were the impressive sets and the amazing way the stage crew maneuvered them in and out in a timely manner. If you didn’t catch one of the performances, you missed a rare treat, indeed.
On the way home, my five year old grand- daughter, who will be in Kindergarten at Gilpin County next year, was so excited and said, “I was picturing myself up there.”
Thanks to the school, the director, the actors, and the stage crew for a wonderful time!
