Dear Ms. Mornis,

I am writing in response to the Mindy Leary piece in The Mountain-Ear Newspaper 12/28/2023 “BOCC not always unanimous in 2023”.

I fully support your vote of “no” on all the matters represented in the article. You seem to understand your constituents are under siege from every direction. City, county, state and federal taxes are all on the rise. Increased regulations coupled with the misnamed “fees”, the horrendous inflation we have felt the past few years and you have a financially challenged tax base. It will be interesting to see the property tax windfall the county residents will pay as a result of increased valuations.

You seem to understand that gaming revenue depends on disposable income. When times are tough gaming revenue goes down. In those times, times are tough for your constituents as well. Thank you for understanding this and speaking out on our behalf.

No one on the current board garnered 40% of the votes from the registered voters in Gilpin County. Yes the election was won but by very small margins. Proposition 1A failed to garner 40% support as well.

I registered as an unaffiliated voter in Gilpin County in 1972. Despite increased taxes, fees, regulations and a massively increased size of county government I have witnessed little improvement to my quality of life.

Thank you for standing up for me.

Sincerely,

Dan Adler
