Dear Editor,
Thank you Bill, for your thoughtful, level-headed letter about the climate crisis and the dilemma of how to reach deniers on the right (Oct. 8, 2020). It is a welcome contrast to the angry letters that attack anything that contradicts their beliefs (for instance the letter from your “fan” in Forney, TX).
I agree that the climate crisis is the dominant issue we face. If we can’t preserve a livable Earth, all other social and economic issues become meaningless. And the climate change train has already left the station and is picking up speed as we speak.
Getting through to those on the right is tough. They never question what they get from Fox News, Q Anon, or other right wing sources. Since they resist logical arguments or uncomfortable evidence, perhaps a better way is to ask thought-provoking but non-confrontive questions. It’s not easy.
