BLACK HAWK — Ted Garcia’s art is said to capture more than strength, passion, and vividness. Through the use of bold colors and textures, Garcia’s pieces are have been judged as having uninhibited brushwork, so he captures on canvas the “beauty and vitality of the passions of our lives and leaving you with the sense of 'the moment.’”
After studying with the master Don Sahli, whose artistic roots can be traced back to the great master painter Sergei Bongart, Garcia grew his style into illustrations mixed with a newfound joy for Russian impressionism. He committed to merging these two styles to create the bold and vivid paintings for which he is known.
According to Garcia, the more passion poured into a painting, the more complex it becomes and the greater its ability to evoke emotion. He believes that our lives are about passion.
“My work is an attempt to bring the height of our passions into our daily lives and to share them with others. In each piece or collection, I’m attempting to exhort passion from the gazer’s stare—to take him on the emotional journey that has crescendoed to the moment captured on canvas,” Garcia avers.
Local scenes inspire many of Garcia’s oil paintings. He prefers to paint “en plein air,” meaning outdoors and on location, to better capture the moment in real time.
He confesses to loving creating people's visions, from pets' and people's portraits to landscapes, homes, hobbies, vacation spots, and more! He prides himself on the many styles and subjects viewers can enjoy, stating that he isn’t “your typical artist.”
