Dear Editor,
We, Gilpin County residents, have a simple choice in November regarding the community center mill levy. Do we support our community and our community center or do we not?
For the cost of one family dinner night out for the vast majority of residents ($80 - $100 per year), we can ensure the continuity of what many regard as the jewel of our county. By the way, this is the same mill levy that has been in place the past three years. Gaming revenue for the county is notoriously unpredictable and cannot be counted on to support all of the important services that are needed in our county.
I personally have not used any of the community center’s services directly, but I have attended town hall meetings, holiday functions, health fairs, and other events there. The county fair is also an event that I’ve enjoyed attending and I know that the community center resources are essential to that great event.
Because I know how much the residents of our beautiful county value and count on the community center, I will be voting for the mill levy in November. I hope you will join me.
