siteplan-tunmbnailDear Editor,

We are writing to draw readers’ attention to the January 6, 2015 Nederland Board of Trustees’ (BOT) meeting; at which trustees will decide whether to approve the proposed site plan for improvements to the Nederland Community Center (NCC). Please encourage the Nederland BOT to approve the proposed site plan for the Nederland Community Center by attending the January 6 meeting or by contacting directly your representatives.

The proposed plan contains strategically built-in phases that span nearly 30 deliberately-slow and thoughtful years of improvement. The phases allow re-evaluation of needs. The timeframe assures transparency and community engagement; complements other demands on public funding; and allows for changes over time.

Importantly, an approved plan allows us to seek grant funding for the actual execution of the phases.  A significant amount of grant funding is available for the first phases of the plan.  These phases would address drainage from the watershed above the Community Center which has caused flooding of the building and parking areas.  Such grant funding sources require that we have a long term plan in place. An affirmative vote by the Nederland BOT allows us to execute these first phases soon, with our additional taxes, while we can continue meaningful dialogue and design development for the long-term future of the Nederland Community Center.

Thank you for supporting our continued efforts!
