Rebuilding Business in the Peak to Peak: 2021 Local News Fund

Like many media outlets, The Mountain-Ear is working hard to help rebuild business outreach in our region. While we offer these stories for free, it’s not free to us. Our journalists are out in this community every day, tracking down and verifying information about how these businesses have come through the pandemic, and how we all can help these communities rebuild. We will focus on covering news that we have not been able to focus on during Covid restrictions…really dig into local businesses and how they have survived the pandemic.

We’re doing it while the global pandemic continues to drag on the local economy, during a large reduction in local advertising because of a huge loss of income at these businesses. That financial challenge means we must find new ways to provide important local news and information at no charge to the businesses.

Many of you already subscribe, and for that we are grateful. But we now are also asking subscribers and non-subscribers alike to help rebuild our small business community by increasing our coverage of this ongoing health crisis while expanding coverage of our local businesses and the people of our region.

If you believe local news and business is critical, please donate to Rebuilding Business in the Peak to Peak — 2021 Local News Fund, via Local Media Foundation, to make our reporting stronger. Contributions to this fund will help pay for local community-based journalists in each small town in our region to share the stories of the people and businesses where they live, and how they have survived the pandemic...trials and tribulations that make their businesses unique. We will include these businesses in the expanded podcast, print, and online editions of The Mountain-Ear.

To donate to The Mountain-Ear, through the nonprofit go to https://givebutter.com/RebuildingP2P.

Rebuilding businesses in the Peak to Peak - 2021 Local News Fund is a program administered by Local Media Foundation, tax ID #36-4427750, a Section 501(c)(3) charitable trust affiliated with Local Media Association. Funds donated to this program support local journalism projects to inform and educate the public on critical local issues. Through this program, LMF provides funds to this news organization and many others to support these important efforts. Contributions to this program are tax-deductible to the full extent of U.S. law; please consult a tax advisor for details. No goods or services are provided in exchange for contributions.

Giving Tuesday (Giving NEWS Day)

The Mountain-Ear celebrates Giving NEW Day with our local campaign,    “Rebuilding Business in the Peak to Peak.” We are joining millions around the world participating in the global generosity movement on November 30, 2021.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on November 30, 2021, and throughout the year.

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday, whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people they care about, or giving to causes they care about. Every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 21 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday CEO and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”

#newsCOneeds

The Mountain-Ear is a trusted source of local news for our community. And right now, that is more important than ever. We have an opportunity I hope you will consider.

The Colorado Media Project has pledged a $5,000 challenge grant to us to help us inspire our community to support homegrown Journalism with philanthropic donations. For every dollar we raise from the community up to $5,000, the challenge fund will match it!

We would like to add to that challenge fund, grow it beyond $5,000, and inspire more of our community to support local news coverage. Would you consider making a donation to our challenge fund?

I would be happy to have a conversation to share details of this plan and how you might play a role in making sure our community has trustworthy, factual, local reporting on issues that matter. Please share a few dates/times that would work for you.

We launch our year-end matching grant fundraising campaign on November 30, 2021. It would be great to count you among the supporters in our community. The #newsCOneeds matching grant link is here https://bit.ly/support-the-mountain-ear.

Thanks for supporting homegrown journalism created by locals, for locals.
