Support equity in Alzheimer’s research

Dear Editor,

In our fight to beat Alzheimer’s disease there is an urgent need for research to include more clinical trial participants from underrepresented populations. We need to ensure that everyone benefits from advances in Alzheimer’s science.

Current statistics show that Black Americans are 2.5 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease and Hispanics 2 times more likely than White Americans.

There is new bipartisan Federal legislation - the Equity in Neuroscience and Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials (ENACT) Act (H.R. 3085/ S.1548) that would increase participation of underrepresented populations in clinical trials by expanding education and outreach for these populations. Fairness and trust need to increase for the underrepresented populations by engaging, recruiting and retaining diverse populations in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trials.

Please ask Senator Hickenlooper and our other members of Congress to support the ENACT Act. And a big Thank You to Senator Bennet and Representative Neguse who have already signed on as cosponsors of ENACT.
